Andes

Explore the stunning Andean wilderness with dramatic mountain views whilst trekking on remote trails. Ecuador's region of the Andes consists of over 30 volcanic cones, many over 5,000 meters and almost a third still active. Ecuador’s top volcanic experiences include climbing the world's highest active volcano, perfect ice-cream-cone Cotopaxi ((5897m), hiking around Laguna Quilotoa or seeing the sky reflect in the crater of Cuicocha. These are the most unique ways of understanding the majesty of Ecuadorian Ands that consist of two major chains, known as the Cordillera Occidental and Cordillera Oriental. Between 3,500 and 4,500 m above sea level are situated interesting plant formations and landscapes called the paramo. What looks like a desert is actually full of water and is a habitat ideal for condors, caracaras, deer, llamas, vicuñas, multicolored flowers and humming birds. Down in the valleys of the Ecuadorian sierra you can see different shades of colored puzzle made of corn, wheat, barley and quinoa fields. Discover colorful life and festivals in remote Andean villages, without forgetting to pay the visit to the capital city Quito with its beautifully restored historical center and worldclass eateries and the charming city of Cuenca, the place of Old World beauty.
